« 100,000 Watts of Fat City est la première monographie consacrée à l’œuvre plastique d’Alan Vega sur une idée originale d’Anna Poleri et de Jim Queffélec. Au début des années 90, nous partîmes à NYC : nous devions absolument découvrir ces assemblages que nous avions devinés sur des pochettes et de rares portraits d’Alan. Ils nous hantaient depuis des années ; personne n’avait pris à cœur de faire connaître son travail plastique. Au-delà de toute attente, ce fut une véritable rencontre avec Alan, une collision même, une de celle qui laisse des traces. Poussés par notre accélération psychique, nous contactâmes Julian Schnabel et Henry Rollins ; s’en suivirent des séances photos à la chambre 4’x 5′ et des interviews speedées, rythmées par les maquettes studio diffusées par Alan. La participation de Julian Schnabel confirmait par là l’intérêt que portait le peintre – en qualité de collectionneur – à l’œuvre du sculpteur et ce depuis de nombreuses années. La rencontre entre les textes brefs et violents du californien Henry Rollins et le sculpteur de Brooklyn nous importait aussi, elle eut bien lieu. Ainsi naquit 100,000 Watts of Fat City. »
“100,000 Watts of Fat City is the first monograph on the sculpture of Alan Vega based on an original idea by Anna Poleri and Jim Queffélec. In the early nineties, we went to NYC: to discover more about these assemblages that we had seen on covers and in rare portraits of Alan.Vega. They haunted us for years, and no one had taken to heart to make known his work. Beyond all expectations, we had a really inspirational encounter with Alan, a collision of minds even, one that leaves a strong impact on the mind. Driven by our psychic acceleration, we contacted Julian Schnabel and Henry Rollins; to ask them to be involved in the project. These contacts were followed by photo shoots with 4’x 5′ camera and speedy interviews, punctuated by new tracks to come that Alan broadcasted. The participation of Julian Schnabel confirmed the interest of the painter – as a collector – in the work of Alan Vega the sculptor for many years. The meeting between the brief and violent texts of the Californian Henry Rollins and the sculptor of Brooklyn mattered to us, it actually took place. And we achieved our goal of bringing attention to the work of Alan Vega. Thus was born 100,000 Watts of Fat City.”
